Original Fine Art of Animals, Flora, and SpiritualismI'm pretty much on top of a mountain. I'm surrounded by wilderness with the National Forest for a playground. I get to be right here every day. A dream. It's an influence for sure, and I'd say it absolutely affects my art.
I begin my canvases with gesso and acrylic paint. I used to use just oil, but I can get those initial layers done faster by building up gesso and acrylic, and I can rub in dirt and sand and herbs like sagebrush and rabbit bush and incense. |
Heavily Textured PaintingsI build up my textures and then do 20, 30, or more layers of oil on top of that and use really anything but brushes... scratching it off and putting more on. I keep doing that until something starts to happen. I've always leaned toward the visceral-ness of heavily textured art.
Sometimes I think part of my evolution as an artist and my artwork, and specifically all the texture in my art, came out of the need for a remedy to overcome all the mistakes I make. If something is not working, all I have to do is slap on another layer of paint (thicker and thicker) until it does. |

Colorful and Textured Florals, Abstract Floral ArtRoses, carnations, lilacs, along with other flower art works.I'd call myself a painter of nature. I don't think I really try to re-produce nature, so my paintings may not look like things you'd ever see, but the idea is more to express the emotion, colors, textures, flowers, things that may or may not be Flora & Fauna artwork.
Embarking on the deeper exploration of a variety of artistic styles from realism to impressionism my early influences included Monet, Chagall, Tamayo and Bonnard. A mixture of acrylic, oils and fiber to be the materials of choice for the greater breadth. |
Representational Minimalistic Art, Abstract ExpressionismI've become increasingly interested in the effect of words and writing over the surfaces.
I've heard about studies done on plants and water crystals and how they are affected positively or negatively by people’s emotions, their speech, or even the types of music that's played near them... With that idea in mind, I write what I find to be positive messages, Buddhist sayings, uplifting words. It's funny, but most of I write actually becomes hidden between the layers, but they're there, and maybe energetically add another depth of emotion that somehow the unconscious mind attaches to. |
Animal Kingdom ArtworkMy bird family of animal art includes... Cardinals, Magpies, Robins, Hummingbirds, Verios, Blue Jays, Nuthatches, Canadian Jays, Crows, Ravens... Other Nature Art includes... Buffalos, and Fish like, Salmon and Trout.I often blend with natural materials such as sand and dried herbs. This creates a cohesive foundation and initiates some interesting texture. The combination of abstract and representational styles of art pieces facilitates a more expansive range of awareness. Many of my representational images allows for focus within the work. Since people’s tastes are varied, you'll find that my art works provide a variety of styles, including my paintings of animals. Can we ever have enough beauty in our lives? |
Butterfly Art WorkMonarchs, Skippers, Swallowtails, Metalmarks, Viceroys, Crescentspots, Mountain and Coastal types, Isabellas, Tiger Swallowtails, and many others!Butterflies always make me think of potential, but they're also so very peaceful. I think they're a really good reminder that everything’s exactly how it's supposed to be. There are so many types of butterflies that it takes a book to list them all. Butterflies and moths together make up an order of insects called Lepidoptera. This group contains over 180,000 known species! |
In my perfect studio all I have is the painting on the wall and then my meditation cushion and my brushes and a little bit of paint right on the floor, so I can contemplate and then get up, paint a little bit, sit back and observe, and that's it.
